Frequently Asked Questions

Hiker’s Salt

I have seen over the years that you have had a few different glass jars for your seasonings. Why do you carry them and why have they changed?

Very good questions! When we look for packaging of our products we try to find items that would look nice enough to be out on your counter so they are easy to grab, but also do not clutter your counter with unsightly packaging. Plus a refillable, washable container is more thoughtful toward our environment. As far as the changes, our first jar was a pint canning jar, and our main loss due to COVID. It got to a point where they were outrageously priced, so we looked for another jar. And we finally settled on the clean, sleek look of the final jar, what you see on our website now. Thank you for being patient as Acme grows and learns.

Are the Lux Spice Jars and lids washable?

Yes! It is good to wash your jars and lids each time you need to refill the jar. Here are some simple instructions:

Empty any seasoning left in your jar onto a piece of parchment paper, or paper towel and set aside.

Get very warm tap water running, and a cloth or clean sponge wet in the warm water. Add a drop of your dish soap to the cloth or sponge. Run the warm water over the lid for 2 seconds, wipe gently all over with the cloth or sponge. Be careful to not scrub at the edges, especially not the black foam interior layer. If food or seasoning is particularly stuck there, use a wet toothbrush very gently to dislodge any stuck pieces. Wipe the lid one last time, rinse very quickly and set to dry on an edge leaning against something so it stays standing until fully dry. The glass part you should also get wet in your running water, then with the same sponge or cloth wash the glass inside and out. The label should stay on the jar if you wash it gently and quickly. Rinse the jar well and allow to air dry. Be absolutely sure your jar and lid are dry before refilling the jar! (Moisture will not “ruin” your seasoning, only make clumps, which are easily broken up between your fingers.) Always put the new seasoning in first leaving room for any seasoning that is waiting for you on the paper towel or parchment.
